Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a health care profession that emphasizes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the nervous system, muscular system (includes fascia and connective tissue), and skeletal system (includes bones and joints). Chiropractic manual therapy is the treatment technique employed by Chiropractors that involves using manual techniques on the muscles, joints, ligaments, peripheral nerves, tendons, and fascia. The growing body of scientific evidence in manual therapy has validated chiropractic manual therapy and these techniques have been found to have multiple positive effects on the function, performance and well being of patients.
Massage Therapy
Our clients at CPC benefit from massage therapy for a wide range of conditions. Some of these include chronic pain and stress, acute low back or neck pain, acute muscle and joint injuries, sports performance optimization and pregnancy related conditions. Massage therapy has become a widely utilized stream of manual therapy where safe and effective soft tissue techniques help to improve muscle, fascia, and lymphatic dysfunctions. At CPC, Dr. Tara, has a dual designation of registered massage therapy as well as Doctor of Chiropractic, which allows her to apply her extensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to every client and their needs.
At CPC, we offer various types of massage which include:
Sports and Deep Tissue Massage
Hot Stone Massage
Pregnancy and Postnatal Massage
Relaxing/ Swedish Massage
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Older Adult Fitness Class
At CPC, we have been offering Older Adult fitness classes for over 4 years. These classes are very small in size (max 5 people per class) and are instructed by our well-qualified practitioner. The purpose of these classes is to prevent common issues and complaints that older adults face, such as a decline in strength, mobility and balance, and to maximize functional capacity and independence. Each member is encouraged to work within their capacity and look to set goals, and progress towards them. These classes are taught by practitioners who have extensive knowledge of the human body and potential injuries, and therefore, they tailor movements based on each individual’s fitness capacity and their current injury or dysfunction.
Shock Wave Therapy
Shock wave therapy is a non-invasive therapeutic procedure in which a single-impulse transient sound wave of 1 microsecond duration is applied to different target body regions to produce pain reduction and facilitate healing through a mechanism called mechanotransduction. In the last two decades much research has been conducted to study the efficacy of shockwave therapy in various musculoskeletal conditions. There is solid evidence that shows the biological responses to therapeutic shock waves include altered metabolic activity of various cell types due to direct and indirect mechanical force, leading to improved quality, chemistry and cell-type in the area of treatment. Therefore, shock wave therapy helps in regenerating and repairing damaged tissues and thus improving pain and function. This modality can be used in healing of tendons, bones, joints, spastic muscles, overall pain reduction and reducing inflammation. The protocol for most treatment sites require 3-10 sessions of shock wave therapy with 5-7 days between each treatment.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used effectively as a therapeutic modality for health since ancient times. In the last few decades modern scientific research has explored and confirmed its effectiveness in treating a variety of health problems. The effectiveness of acupuncture depends on the specificity of the inputs, which is why at CPC, our advanced needling techniques help to correct the problem and promote healing and recovery much more efficiently, especially in combination with our other therapeutic interventions. Our clinicians at CPC, use this modality as a component of chiropractic therapy, to improve the communication between the nervous system and tissues as well as improve blood flow, tissue metabolism, and nerve conduction locally. Some conditions that have shown to improve with acupuncture are:
Myofascial pain syndrome and hypertonic muscle and fascia
Low back pain
Neck pain and headaches
Sports injuries
Strength and Conditioning
At CPC, we re-focus training inputs to cultivate specific strength adaptations in the client based on the specific needs of the person. The specific needs of the person are determined first by an assessment of joint function and capacity. Instead of focusing on displays of strength, we use strength training as a means to apply forces to the tissues to stimulate specific tissue adaptations that can be synthesized by the nervous system to solve specific problems or tasks requiring the generation and discharge of force.
What does this mean and how does it look?
You come in for an assessment to determine the current state of your joint and tissue function and we figure out what your joint and tissue requirements are, based on your needs and goals for your sport or life. A program will be designed for your specific tissue and joint needs relative to your goal. The program is not 1 program, it is a progressive and periodized program that includes multiple phases with specific force inputs to the tissues that work towards your end goals. You will be shown the program, with the opportunity to record the exercises, to do them independently or you can do them with one of our staff.
Orthotic and Braces
At CPC, we offer a wide range of braces and custom-made orthotics as an assistive device for various musckulo-skeletal conditions. Our orthotics are casted using a 3-D foam box and dispensed by our chiropractors. Custom-made orthotics are designed with the specific needs of each patient in mind. They are tailored based on the sport or the predominant use of the orthotic, and the physical corrections desired based on our biomechanical examination and gait assessment. Custom-made orthotics have been widely utilized in assisting with the recovery of various musculoskeletal complaints such as:
Achilles tendinopathy
Pes planus
Bunions and hallux rigidus
Low back pain and more
